Volunteering with the Preble Street Resource Center

The Defendify team loves to make a difference, and one way we do so is volunteering as a group. We recently took some time out of our workday to pitch in at the Preble Street Resource Center soup kitchen. The Resource Center is located right around the corner from the Defendify office, making the volunteer experience that much more meaningful.

The team chopped vegetables, plated desserts, washed dishes, and provided service with a smile to soup kitchen patrons through the lunch shift. It was both eye-opening and rewarding to see what a positive impact a hot, nutritious meal had for so many of our neighbors.

The mission of Preble Street is to provide accessible barrier-free services to empower people experiencing problems with homelessness, housing, hunger, and poverty, and to advocate for solutions to these problems.

Between the three Preble Street Soup Kitchens, over a thousand meals are served daily. While the purpose of the soup kitchens is to provide a nutritious meal, they also serve as an important entry point to services for families and individuals experiencing homelessness or living in poverty. The soup kitchen shares a building with other Preble Street programs, and outreach workers and caseworkers meet and engage with people in need. The soup kitchens are also close to many community resources, facilitating access to employment services, housing assistance, healthcare, and more to help patrons break the cycle of hunger and homelessness.

Defendify is proud to have pitched in with this important local cause that provides support to so many. And helping out in the kitchen was a great teambuilding experience.
